Rudder plate anode

Anodes sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the protected metals. They must be cleaned and replaced regularly. Caution: once they are worn by more than 60%, they no longer retain their protective capacity. In seawater, either a zinc alloy anode or an aluminium alloy anode must be used. For equal output, an aluminium anode weighs three times less than a zinc anode, has a higher electronegative potential and is less polluting. Perfectly suited to protecting aluminium hulls. For navigation exclusively in fresh water, a magnesium anode should be preferred.
