With the introduction of Automatic Identification System (AIS) functionality, Return Link Service (RLS) technology and Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities into a 406 MHz personal locator beacon (PLB), the rescueME PLB3 marks a significant step in the evolution of PLBs. The fusion of 406 MHz and AIS distress messaging effectively combines global and local rescue, thereby maximising access to the most effective rescue resources available. In addition, the NFC functionality offers users the first PLB connected to a smartphone and the brand-new Return Link Service function allows users to know that their distress message has been received and that their position has been detected by search and rescue personnel worldwide.
